And so on Saturday London held it's annual Gay Pride Celebrations. And as with each year there seems to be more people taking part or just enjoying the spectacle. But this year we thought we'd do things a little bit differently. And instead of heading to the start of the Parade in Portland Place we headed straight for the Trafalgar Square Stage area. It's normally at the start of the Parade that I have in the past taken advantage of some of the best photo opportunities as the marchers and participants preen themselves for the hungry photographers. So I thought I'd take my chances and catch some of the Parade after leaving the Trafalgar Stage area. And so what attracted many to by-pass the big Parade in order to get into the Stage area? I imagine it might have had something to do with our very own Ronan Parke who came on to the Stage at around 1.oo pm. And I'm also sure that this was his first London public appearance. Next month sees Ronan turn 21. And what a handsome young man he has grown into. He certainly looked fetching in his ripped slim jeans and his see through shirt. He did mention that this year was his first ever London Gay Pride and that he'd always wanted to be here at such a big event. And with his 'Coming Out' earlier this year you imagine that he'll not face such obstacles and restrictions in the future. Ronan came on and performed his rendition of Purple Rain. He was then joined on stage by a group of dancers for an upbeat version of No Love. Then he closed out with John Lennon's timeless classic Imagine. We were hoping that he was going to have a P.R walkabout for everyone in the front row of the audience, an old tradition at the Pride Stage. But we didn't hang around long enough to find out. And not long after he left the Stage we could hear the front of the Parade arriving just outside the Square where upon many made a dash from the stage area to try and catch it. Ronan has just posted up a picture on his instagram. He seems quite thrilled at how it all turned out yesterday at his first London Gay Pride. He also thanked the organizers of Sydney Mardi Gras for bestowing him the honour of being a 'Champion of Pride.' And that he will represent them at World Pride Sydney in 2023. RONAN'S INSTAGRAM. |
MORE PICTURES FROM LONDON GAY PRIDE So that's Pride over for another year. And it's interesting to see that our main stream media are finally on to the Pride organizers who seem ever determined to take the event towards some sort of corporate utopia where more and more big Companies are jumping on the Pink Pound bandwagon. BELOW ARE JUST A FEW MEDIA STORIES COVERING THE CURRENT PROBLEMS WITH PRIDE. GAY PRIDE HAS BECOME TOO COMMERCIALISED (With some comments by Peter Tatchell) THE CORPORATE TAKEOVER OF PRIDE. HAS PRIDE BECOME A COMMERCIAL CASH COW? WHY AS A GAY BLACK MAN I WON'T BE MARCHING AT THIS YEAR'S GAY PRIDE. |
